Personal and social skills are possibly the most important prime areas of learning in the life of a child. Children need to learn the skills that facilitate their understanding of who they are and what they can do including recognizing and regulating emotions, expanding their interests, discovering their abilities, and developing a strong sense of who they are. To assist in this understanding, children need to become actively involved in the world around them through their interactions with others while establishing and building positive relationships, understanding the rules of society and behaving towards others. Providing opportunities for your child to practice these skills is important as he/she develops and grows. Growth and development in personal and social skills allow for children to benefit fully from experiences at school.
